Partnership
Diamond Ireland Hub
Diamond Ireland Hub is a robust, sustainable network that is being developed from September 2025 – December 2026 to support Diamond Open Access (OA) publishing in Ireland. Building on PublishOA’s 2022–2025 groundwork—its feasibility and landscape analyses, community partnerships, and pilot platform development—this phase is establishing an all-island collaboration empowering Irish academic communities, libraries, and publishers to sustainably manage scholarly communication and protect bibliodiversity in the public interest.
Rooted in equity, academic integrity, and high-quality scholarship, the network is intended to consolidate and expand PublishOA’s initial partnership—including the IOAP, pilot publishers, Publishing Ireland, academic institutions, and key agencies—into a durable, internationally-aligned coalition. It will support Diamond OA journal and monograph publishers across disciplines, including commercial publishers adopting the model for specific titles. A strong focus will be placed on bibliodiversity, with particular attention to Irish-language publishing and scholarship from marginalised or underrepresented communities.
A central outcome is the co-design and rollout of a practical, community-driven business and governance model to ensure long-term sustainability. This will feature national and consortial support structures, service partnerships, and a scalable membership framework.
Aligned with national and international initiatives (e.g., SCOIR, TROPIC, DIAMAS, OPERAS, PALOMERA, European Diamond Capacity Hub, and ALMASI) and endorsing key policies like Science Europe’s Action Plan for Diamond Open Access, the network will act as a key facilitator of ethical, inclusive, and scholar-led Diamond OA publishing—advancing the goals of Ireland’s National Open Research Action Plan and the aim of 100% Open Access by 2030.
